In a high-octane display of racing, strategy, and unwavering teamwork, the St. James College (Jimmies) Race Team made history at the 2023 Formula Student Endurance Race held at the historic Lakeside Park racetrack on October 6, 2023. The team’s astounding success unfolded before the eyes of racing enthusiasts and engineering aficionados, cementing their reputation as a formidable force in the world of school motorsports.

“Our Jimmies Race Team exemplified these qualities at the recent 2023 Formula Student Endurance Race,” St. James College Head of Faculty – VET & Trade Skills, Anthony Hill said.

Comprising students from three senior engineering classes, the Jimmies Race Team entered the competition with two meticulously engineered vehicles, each a testament to the dedication and hard work of both students and staff.

“The intense competition, which included some of the best engineering schools from around the region, promised a thrilling challenge, and our team was eager to showcase their skills and determination,” Anthony Hill emphasised.

As the race unfolded, it became evident that the St. James College team was a cut above the rest. Both of their cars consistently held their ground among the top 10 competitors, showcasing remarkable resilience and performance.

“This consistency is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and countless hours of preparation that our students and staff put into the engineering of these cars,” Anthony Hill explained.

“Our victory at the 2023 Formula Student Endurance Race is a result of the dedication, passion, and teamwork that define St. James College’s approach to education,” Anthony Hill continued. “It’s not just about winning races; it’s about nurturing future engineers and leaders who excel in their fields.”

In a race marked by attrition, with numerous competitors unable to finish the demanding endurance challenge, both St. James College cars crossed the finish line, a testament to the team’s skill and unity.

“In a stunning display of performance, one of our cars emerged as the winner of the 2023 Formula Student Endurance Race, earning the coveted first place,” Anthony Hill exclaimed.

“The other car was no slouch either, finishing an impressive 6th in a field of 30.

“Our Jimmies Race Team will continue to push the boundaries of engineering and motorsports,” Anthony Hill concluded.
