“You’re going to experience the best of everything St James College is and has to offer on this day,” Principal Rice said. “You’ll meet our fantastic staff, incredible students, and more importantly, feel the culture and atmosphere that draws so many to our wonderful school.”
St James College stands out as the only inner-city coeducational Catholic school offering education from Years 5 to 12. It provides a rich, real-world learning environment that reflects the diversity and vibrancy of Brisbane and Australia.
“At St James, our students are well prepared for life,” Principal Rice explained. “They become better university students, better workers – because they’ve been part of a multicultural community that values inclusiveness and excellence.”
The St James College Open Day will showcase the school’s unique pathways from Year 10 to 12, which include ATAR and vocational options, ensuring every student finds a direction that supports their future success. Visitors will also learn about the school’s dedicated wellbeing team – including counsellors, a nurse, an art psychotherapist, and learning enrichment experts – all working together to ensure each student thrives.
“Neurodiverse learners bring so much richness to our school,” Principal Rice added. “We believe in every student having the support they need to flourish.”
The school’s sporting achievements, particularly in basketball and rugby, will also be on display, with elite-level coaches inspiring students on and off the field. Equally impressive are the school’s long-running social justice programs – such as the 20-year breakfast van initiative and the ongoing partnership with a remote Aboriginal community in the Tiwi Islands.
Families attending the Open Day will discover that students from Year 5 benefit from secondary-trained subject specialists and advanced facilities – including science labs, STEM workshops, and even commercial kitchens.
“Our younger students love the chance to explore all parts of themselves – whether it’s designing furniture in the Trade Training Centre or cooking up a storm in our professional kitchens,” Principal Rice said.
With a new partnership with The University of Queensland to deliver critical thinking programs from Year 5, and a strong emphasis on independence, resilience and city-based learning, St James College is creating confident, capable graduates.
“Come and see what’s on offer,” Principal Ms Rice exclaimed. “You’ll be amazed – and you’ll feel the spirit of this community the moment you walk through the gates.”
The St James College Open Day is on Thursday 12 June 2025, from 11.00am to 1.30pm. All families considering enrolment from Year 5 to 12 are warmly encouraged to attend.
