History enthusiasts and families alike are in for a treat as Abbeystowe (Abbey Medieval Festival site) prepares to host “History Alive,” a two-day event on September 7-8, 2024, that promises to bring the past to life with thrilling jousts, live music, festive dances, and fascinating displays. This immersive event offers visitors the chance to explore the histories and cultures of various eras, from Roman times to the modern day, through captivating battle reenactments, workshops, and interactive experiences.

At History Alive, attendees will witness the dramatic reenactments of Crusader Knights, Napoleonic Cavalry, and WWI combatants, bringing the intensity of historical battles to the forefront. In addition to these spectacles, there will be stunning encampments to explore and workshops to attend, offering a deeper insight into life in times past.

The event is presented by the Queensland Living History Federation (QLHF) and hosted on the Abbey Medieval Festival event site, making it the premier QLHF reenactment event. Reenactors will showcase their dedication to authenticity, from their clothing and hairstyles to the tents, furniture, food, and weaponry of their chosen eras. Whether it’s the Dark Ages, Renaissance Italy, or Colonial Australia, History Alive promises an authentic and engaging experience for all.

Visitors can also look forward to a variety of other attractions. Car enthusiasts will have the rare opportunity to see Australia’s only WWI Model T Ford, while plane lovers can enjoy displays from the Caboolture War Plane Museum. Food and drink aficionados can indulge in curated beers and food delights at the Stag Inn and the Abbeystowe Food Fair, featuring German sausages, donut dogs, and more.

For those with a taste for action, the event will feature full combat Buhurt demonstrations, a thrilling Joust Spectacular, and an archery range. Dance lovers can participate in workshops at the Abbeystowe Music Hall, offering lessons in everything from Medieval dances to the Roaring Twenties.

With a smaller capacity this year, capped at 4,000 visitors daily, attendees can expect a more intimate experience, with ample opportunity to engage with the 40 groups hosting activities and workshops across the site. The event is designed to be family-friendly, with plenty of activities for children to enjoy, from Ancient Rome to WWII reenactments.

Visitors are encouraged to plan their day carefully to make the most of the diverse array of activities available. Central to the event are the reenactors, historians, and performers whose passion and expertise will create a wholly immersive experience.
