Held at Abbeystowe in Caboolture across Saturday, 30 May, and Sunday, 31 May 2026, the third annual Abbeystowe Challenger Clash welcomed fighters, teams, supporters, families, and livestream viewers for a weekend that blended serious international sport with the spectacle of a living medieval village.

Co-hosted by the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology and Team Vultures Armoured Combat, the event was recognised as an official Buhurt International competition, giving competitors the chance to test themselves in front of a passionate crowd, and giving spectators a rare opportunity to see modern armoured combat up close.

Buhurt is not theatre, choreographed fighting, or a gentle historical demonstration. It is a full-contact combat sport fought in armour, using blunt steel weapons, with teams working to outfight, outlast, and outmanoeuvre their opponents inside the list. Across the weekend, spectators watched women’s and men’s teams compete in formats including 3v3, 5v5, 12v12, and All v All battles.

Saturday opened with the gates welcoming crowds before the opening ceremony and the first women’s 3v3 battles. The day continued with men’s 5v5 sessions, an intermission performance by the Abbey House Troupe, and more combat deep into the afternoon.

On Sunday, the action continued with women’s 5v5, women’s 12s, women’s All v All, men’s 5v5 finals, men’s 12s, men’s All v All, and the final awards presentations.

Away from the arena, Abbeystowe became a full weekend experience. Visitors explored the 14th and 15th Century Village, merchant stalls, food vendors, drinks, Abbeystowe Archery, and the Abbeystowe Ale House by Hip Hops Brewers. The program also included live performances, including the Abbey House Troupe, adding to the festival atmosphere between rounds.

Both Saturday and Sunday tickets were listed as sold, underlining the growing appetite for Buhurt in Queensland, and the importance of livestream and on-demand coverage for those who could not be there in person.

Across the results, Tyr’s Valkyries claimed gold in Women’s 3v3, followed by Havoc Magpies with silver and Wild Wyverns with bronze. Team Kraken took gold in Men’s 5v5, ahead of Brisbane Beasts and Team Havoc. Havoc Magpies won Women’s 5v5, with Tyr’s Valkyries second and Brisbane Sheasts third.

In the larger team battles, Brisbane Beasts took gold in Men’s 12v12, with Tyr’s Warriors earning silver. Bronze was listed post-event as Knights of Albion and Raven Guard. In Women’s 12v12, Tyr’s Valkyries, fighting with Wild Wyverns and Havoc Magpies, claimed gold, while the Coastal Alliance of Team Vultures and Brisbane Sheasts took silver.

Individual honours recognised standout performances across the weekend. Kameron R. from Team Kraken was named Men’s MVP, Shanika H-M. from Wild Wyverns was named Women’s MVP, and Nathaniel A. received Marshal MVP. The People’s Choice awards went to Brody M. from Knights of Albion and Jess S. from Team Vultures.

For those who missed the action, or for those who want to relive the battles, the on-demand livestream videos now preserve the weekend in full. From the opening clashes to the finals, awards, village atmosphere, and roar of the crowd, the 2026 Abbeystowe Challenger Clash showed why this event has quickly become one of Australia’s standout Buhurt weekends.

The armour may now be packed away, but the clashes, victories, and moments of steel-on-steel intensity live on.
