Day 19 saw us say goodbye to Scotland and make our way back into England, but not before one last memorable stop in the charming village of Gretna Green, just over the Scottish border. Famous for its romantic history as the place where couples who weren’t allowed to marry elsewhere would run away to elope, Gretna Green was every bit as sweet as we’d hoped. We even got to see a couple eloping while we were there, which made the visit feel extra special.
From there, we crossed back into England and continued on to our next temporary home, Bowness-on-Windermere. The town completely surprised us. It has such a lively atmosphere, with an incredible number of restaurants, bars and pubs packed into one beautiful spot. It instantly felt like the kind of place you could stay for weeks and still not manage to try everything.
Another travel day, another adventure, and another place added to the list of towns we didn’t want to leave.
