The State of Origin decider was larger than life in Wamuran, Queensland, as the local community gathered for an outdoor evening of live sport, entertainment, and shared excitement.
JtA.LIVE collaborated with Platinum Event Hire and Event Video Systems (EVS) to deliver the technical production behind Groovin’ in the Green, creating a vibrant public viewing experience built around a huge LED screen.
The large-format screen placed the live broadcast at the centre of the event, giving guests a clear and compelling view of every tackle, break, try, and turning point in the match.
More than simply putting the game on a screen
Delivering a major live television broadcast in an outdoor event environment requires considerably more than connecting a screen and pressing play.
Specialised broadcast equipment and signal pathways were used to bring the live coverage into the event, with redundancies incorporated to help protect the viewing experience if a primary service or connection encountered a problem.
A large PA system carried the broadcast commentary clearly across the event site, allowing the crowd to remain connected to the action wherever they were watching. The audio system also supported a DJ, helping build the atmosphere before the match and throughout the wider event program.
State colours erupt as the scoreboard changes
Special effects added another memorable dimension to the night.
Large geyser-style effects erupted in State colours whenever points were scored, sending towering illuminated plumes into the night sky and turning major moments in the match into shared celebrations across the venue.
The combination of the screen, lighting, audio, music, and special effects created an experience that felt much bigger than a traditional outdoor screening. Guests were not simply watching the game—they were surrounded by it.
A highly engaging community experience
Groovin’ in the Green attracted a strong crowd, with families, friends, and passionate supporters settling in across the grounds to enjoy the decider together.
From spectators reacting in front of the screen to children enjoying activities around the site, the event demonstrated the power of live production technology to bring a community together around a major cultural and sporting moment.
