UK Trip Day 25
A slow London Sunday turned into a memorable one, with gift shopping in Piccadilly, an incredible Sunday roast at The Devonshire, and the Arsenal game at the wonderfully wild Waxy’s Irish Bar.

Day 25 was the perfect English Sunday — slow, relaxed, and centred around good food, good company and a couple of iconic pubs. In England, Sundays don’t exactly leap into action. Aside from a handful of breakfast cafés, very little opens before midday, so the morning naturally became a chance to ease into the day and wait for the city to wake up.
Just after 11am, we hopped on a bus and made our way into Piccadilly, soaking up the ride before doing a little gift shopping in the heart of London. From there, we settled in at The Devonshire for a drink or two before heading upstairs for what had been one of the most anticipated meals of the trip — their famously hard-to-book Sunday roast. Rob (our very well connected UK friend) had somehow managed to secure us a table, which felt like a minor miracle in itself, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Sunday roast is serious business in England, and once midday rolls around, pubs and restaurants are packed with people all chasing that perfect plate. If you want in, you need to book ahead — and now we completely understand why.
After one of the most incredible roast lunches imaginable, we floated back out into the city feeling completely content and very well fed. The adventure continued with a wander to Waxy’s Irish Bar to watch the Arsenal game on TV. That place was an experience all on its own — sprawling across multiple levels and built with such a quirky, treehouse-like feel that it was easy to lose your bearings just trying to get from the bar back to the table.
It was one of those classic London days that didn’t need a packed itinerary to be memorable — just a bus ride, a brilliant roast, a lively pub and the easy rhythm of a Sunday done properly.
