Day 16 delivered our first full day in Scotland, and it was a beauty. The weather kept us guessing all day, with bursts of sunshine one minute and moody grey skies the next. Rugged up against the cold, we jumped on a bus and made the short trip into the heart of Edinburgh.

From there, it was time to explore. We wandered in and out of what felt like a million gift shops, partly hunting for souvenirs and partly chasing a bit of warmth between the chilly streets.

Then came one of the day’s highlights. The girls headed off to an Islander handbag-making workshop, while the boys bravely held the fort in a nearby pub. Once the bags were finished and the boys were successfully located exactly where they were supposed to be, we all regrouped and set off in search of something to eat.

The adventure continued with a stroll up the Royal Mile, taking in the incredible architecture and the character of Edinburgh’s historic buildings, before making our way to the front of the iconic Edinburgh Castle. After that, a few more pub stops were essential, purely for hydration and warmth, of course, before we returned to our new favourite restaurant for dinner.

All up, it was a super fun and very successful Scottish day out.
